As part of our World book Day celebration this year, we are running a Read for Good Sponsored Read and we’d love your child to join in. We are starting today, and will be running the sponsored read for the next two weeks (ending on the 21st of March).

Pupils can choose whatever they want to read - from comics to classics and audio books to blogs - they are not being assessed, and it’s all about reading for fun. We hope they are motivated to read because the money they raise in sponsorship helps to provide a regular supply of brand new books and a resident storyteller to every major children’s hospital in the UK. The children have watched a video which shows how the money we raise can help.

All we ask is that you take a look at the sponsorship card, see what your child chooses to read and then help your child to find sponsors among family and friends.

You can sponsor a child online at www.readforgood.org/sponsor.  Search for “Marshgate” and the donation amount will be added to our running total. If you are unable to sponsor online, cash can be brought into school by the 22nd March.

Not only does this opportunity allow us to help children in hospitals get access to books, we also will receive some books for school equal to the value of 20% of the grand sponsorship total.

A few years ago Parent Mail introduced own school branded versions of their App and some Marshgate parents may have downloaded the Marshgate Primary School version. Parent Mail have informed us that it is now changing. Our existing Marshgate Primary School branded App will stop working at the end of this calendar year, so it’s really important that you download the new App as soon as possible! Please note if you use the generic ParentMail app already, you will now be using the new and improved version and you do not need to do anything!

Parent Mail have had to make these changes to comply with new requirements of Apple’s app store and the Google Play store. There are new requirements which mean Parent Mail are unable to send different versions of the same app to the app store. Please see below for instructions on how to do this.

How to download the Parent Mail App if you are currently using the Marshgate branded App. Simply search ‘ParentMail’ in the Apple or Android App store.

Once installed, please delete the current App from your device.

The new App includes lots of improvements, including:

• Improved user interface, making it quick and easy to find and manage school communications
• An ‘Unread’ section, where parents can find all new and unread items quickly and easily
• A new ‘Announcements’ feature to keep parents up to date with important ParentMail news.
• Improved archiving and delete functionality, making it easy to select items in bulk.

… and much more!

What’s more, this new App will make it even easier for ParentMail to make improvements in response to parent feedback.

Please see below for dates when you can log on to Parent Mail to make the bookings (you will receive an alert from Parent Mail). Please note bookings do get made quickly. The booking system closes seven days before each Open Day.

5 February - Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Bookings can be made between 15 January at 9.00pm until 29 January

7 February – Years 3, 4 and 5

Bookings can be made between 15 January at 9.00pm and 31 January

20 February – Year 6

Bookings can be made between 22 January at 9.00pm and 13 February

The meetings will be held in a variety of rooms in the school (not the classrooms). Information about which room your child’s teacher will be in, will be available for you to see when you arrive.

In the run up to the PSA Winter Party there will be an online auction with a few special donated items all of which would make fantastic Christmas presents.  Local companies and parents have generously donated fantastic items. 100% of the proceeds from successful bids goes back to the PSA.
