  • School Games Gold Level Mark Award

    Thu 21 Jul 2022

We are delighted to announce that we, Marshgate, have achieved the School Games Gold Level Mark Award for the 2021/22 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in
2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

A snapshot of some our physical activity and school sport achievements this year include:
    - Over 140 children representing the school in 2021/22 in Inter school sport competition.
    - Over 240 children taking part in competitive intra school competition.
    - Sport Leader program in Year 6 who ran a multi skills festival for Year 1 and assisted in the delivery of our lunchtime clubs.
    - Marshgate's first ever Gaelic Football team, adding a new sport to the large array on provision.
    - The PE project for those who identified themselves as less active.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible.  We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community.  We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most either as a participant, leader, official or volunteer.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

We look forward to applying once again in 2023!

    Mr Healy

    Sports Co-ordinator

  • World Book Day and PSA Book Bazaar

Thu 03 Mar 2022 Helen Cox

Today we celebrated World Book Day at school. The children shared their favourite books with the class, took part in paired reading with children from other year groups and had a lot of fun. Thank you to all the children and staff for taking part in various ways and to families at home for organising the wonderful outfits.

The PSA held their very first book bazaar in the Reception and KS2 playgrounds after school. This gave the children an opportunity to choose and take home books to read. The PSA will be selling books on Friday, 4 March too after school. Thank you to everyone who brought books in for the bazaar.

  • Letter from Mr Bracken, Head Teacher

    Wed 01 Sep 2021

    Dear Marshgate Pupils and Parents/Carers,

I hope you had a great summer and are feeling ready and excited for the start of the new school year. I am certainly very excited about starting my Marshgate journey as the new Head Teacher and very much look forward to meeting you all.

As you may know, Government guidance for schools has shifted.  We will maintain a vigilant approach to hand washing, deep cleaning and appropriate ventilation. We will continue to follow local authority and national guidance and will respond as required in the event of any significant outbreaks.

I know that the whole Marshgate team are very excited about having the children back again, in anticipation of the buzz of enjoyable learning and social fulfilment, while maintaining our responsibility to ensure the highest standards in health and safety.

Extensive works were successfully carried out to the school’s heating system while the school was closed during the summer holiday. As a result of these works, a new gas meter will be fitted close to the Sheen Road access gate.

This work will require excavation across Sheen Road and will result in a complete closure of the school gate on Sheen Road and the Reception red gates at the top of the steps, to the school community, for a period of approximately ten days. The planned dates for this are Monday, 6th September to Thursday, 16th September. I didn’t envisage this restriction being in place for the start of our new school year and understand that it may inconvenience families.

While the closure of this gate is for a relatively short period of time and while not ideal, I appreciate your support and cooperation with our temporary access plans for the Sheen Road gate which is the usual access gate for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Please see below for the specific arrangements for this period.

Sheen Road gate and Reception red gate closure:

    • Closure from Monday 6th September - Thursday 16th September 2021 (any changes to these dates will be communicated)
    • All children and families enter and exit via the main double gates on Queens Road.
    • Reception families will be directed by Marshgate members of staff to walk around the building to the KS2 side entrance to the hall and continue into the Reception outside area.
    • Reception exiting arrangements (until children are staying for lunch) - children will be dismissed from the KS2 playground by the teachers - parents please queue through the carpark.
    • Year 1 enter will be directed by Marshgate members of staff to walk around the school building to the KS2 side entrance to the hall and continue through the Reception outside area to the KS1 playground.
    • Year 2 enter through the car park, across the KS2 playgrounds and access the KS1 playground from the far end of the school building (again Marshgate staff will be on hand to direct you).
    • Year 1 and Year 2 arrangements for collection at 3.20pm will be the same as for morning drop off.
    • KS2 (Year 3-6) start and end of day access arrangements are unaffected.  Please drop off in the KS2 playground by 8.45am, the bell will not be rung.  Children can enter their classrooms when the Learning Support Assistant indicates to do so at 8.45am.  Early morning work will be provided until registration at 8.55am.

    Marshgate calendar on the website

Please do take a look at the website for up and coming events.  In particular, we have scheduled Curriculum Talks in September.  Further information to follow.

I very much look forward to meeting you in person.  In the meantime if you would like to contact me please do so via headteacher@marshgate.richmond.sch.uk or via parents@marshgate.richmond.sch.uk

    Kind regards,

  • Head Teacher letter from Ms Jackson, 17 June 2021

    Thu 17 Jun 2021

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As you know “Freedom Day” 21 June 2021 has now been delayed to the 19 July 2021.  As a result, we have, unfortunately, had to change arrangements for some of the end of term planned activities. These events were originally planned to be live.  We are, of course, trying to keep as many of these as possible but now delivered according to Government Covid safe requirements.  Please see below for all arrangements.

    Sports Experience Day             Reception & KS1 24 June 2021                    KS2 25 June 2021

No adults can attend but we will ensure all the children will have a wonderful day to remember experiencing different sports which they may not have come across before. All children can come in their PE uniform for their Sports Experience Day.

    Year 6 School Journey - 28 June – 2 July 2021

This is permitted to go ahead with all children and adults maintaining the socially distanced bubble (the same as at school) throughout the trip.

Early Years Information Evening for the new Reception Parents and Carers 2021 – 30 June 2021

This will now be a virtual event.  Ms Wrigley (Early Years’ Leader) will send out all the details.

New 2021 Reception Pupil and Parent classroom visits – 6 July 2021

This will be a virtual visit (video to meet your class teacher and see the classroom). Ms Wrigley (Early Years’ Leader) will send out all the details.

Open Evening for all year groups – 8 July 2021

You will have already received your child’s very full report before this event.  As is usual, there are no individual appointments for this evening. This event will be arranged for fifteen parents from each class to visit their child’s classroom during an hour slot, see their books, and have a quick chat with their teacher (who will be in the playground).  Only one parent from each family may attend and no children are permitted. Details and the available hour for you will be sent out nearer the time.

    Year 6 Production – 13 July 2021 and 14 July 2021

Two performances will take place over two days.  Only thirty socially distanced adults (one adult from a family) will be permitted to attend each performance.  The performance will also be filmed to share with other family members.  A booking survey will be sent out nearer the time.

    Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly – 16 July 2021

This will be an outdoor event. One adult from each family may attend and adults must stay in groups of thirty socially distanced. There will be an allocated place for each class’s adults in the playground. Should it rain you will need to bring an umbrella as we cannot move the event to inside.

Pupil move up afternoon - 16 July 2021

This will be a virtual event.

    Party Day – 19 July 2021

If permitted by the 19 July, this will go ahead as planned.  Please note children will need to bring in their own individual party food that day (no restrictions, but please note no nuts and or food containing nuts).  School meals and packed lunches will not be provided by Harrisons on Party Day.  Children can wear their own clothes on this day.

    Year 6 Disco – 19 July 2021

If permitted by the 19 July, this will go ahead as planned. If not a Year 6 evening outdoor event will be organised (not a disco) but Year 6 will be able to have an evening event in their bubble.

    Year 6 last day – 20 July 2021

Year 6 finish time on the last day will be 1.30pm.  Adults may collect from the large KS2 playground. This will enable the Year 6’s and adults to have some time and space to say goodbye to each other.

All other year groups will finish at 2.00pm on the last day and can be collected from the usual bubble points.

    Best wishes.
